Mudumalai Tiger Reserve

We hired a driver to take us for the weekend to Mysore.  On the way there, we decided to take the long route through the hillside and tiger reserve. It was a gorgeous drive. Unfortunately, Liam gets really car sick here. Even just driving across town 40 minutes to the mall or church and he is sick. We knew that he would be sick since the drive wound through the mountains.

He didn’t let us down. Before we even started up the mountains, he was already feeling queasy. He spent the remainder of the morning telling us that he needed to throw up. We stopped a few times but finally said he would just have to use a bag. He made it and was glad he did because he got his favorite lunch in Ooty.

Here are some photos of the scenery.

After lunch we entered the tiger reserve. Liam was better and had his face planted against the window so he wouldn’t miss a thing. We saw spotted deer, wild boar and monkeys.

Pretty soon we noticed the bamboo was ripped up along the road.  Then in the distance we noticed an elephant. It was barely visible through the brush. Thankfully just a few minutes up the road, we were lucky enough to see 7 elephants off the side of the road including 1 baby. Elephants are my favorite animals so this was a treat to see them in the wild. The drive took us all day but it was amazing.
