Adiyogi Shiva statue
Update: we have had visitors recently that we took to see this statue. We were able to learn more while there. This is the God Shiva, the God of destruction. The snake is a blue throated variety. The white dot is a third eye. It has a laser and is all seeing. The necklace is made from beads that worshippers roll in their hands while meditating. The God is often depicted with the snake on his shoulders, third eye, crescent moon, rivers flowing from his hair and a trident as weapon of choice.
One Saturday, we were able to take a family trip. While most things are closed around us, we found a statue 10 miles away that was open. It’s set west of Coimbatore next to the mountains in the countryside. The small winding roads made what would be a short drive take 50 minutes. We drove out early to beat the sun and heat of the day.
The statue is so large, it was visible from the road. To help stop the spread of COVID, they have rows of handrails set up directing visitors to the statue.
The Adiyogi statue is a 112 foot tall, 147 foot long steel statue of the God Shiva. Adiyogi refers to the creator of yoga. It was established to inspire people towards well-being via yoga.
It is recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest bust sculpture in the world.
