Ludhiana

Here are somethings we got to see/do while in Ludhiana.

It was Dennis’ business partner daughter’s first birthday. They rented out a rooftop restaurant and hosted a grand party complete with hordes of food, a photographer, the best cake, and loud music. Of course, we got roped into too many photos and trying to Indian dance (sorry the videos of that are restricted!).

We stayed at Dennis’ partner’s parents home. They made us the best Indian food. If I’m honest, I didn’t really like Indian food until we stayed there. Here is them making homemade cucumber/chili chutney and grilled chapati.

First, the clay pot has to be heated up with a fire until it’s glowing inside. Then, they throw the wet chapati onto its sides. When it starts to fall off, they set them down by the coals to finish cooking. They were stuffed with cooked cauliflower, onion and spices. You eat them with butter, chutney, curd and Indian pickles.

Here’s a video of cooking them. https://youtu.be/rZiAs4NrPYE

Yes, this is a stuffed bus and people are also riding on top of it. It was so loaded that it’s tipping to the side.

They took us to Pirates of the Grill.  It’s a restaurant that reminds me of Tuscanos in Salt Lake City. They bring around skewers of meat or vegetables. They also have an Indian and dessert buffet. Our favorites were the fried corn, grilled pineapple, potatoes in a gravy, bbq chicken, and shrimp,

We also got to try some street food. These are fried potato pancakes. They top them with curd, tamarind chutney and a version of sauerkraut. They are called tikki. We also loved potato purri, samosas and pakoda. If you love Indian food, I’m working on learning to make these and will share recipes here once I figure them out.

Yummy!!!
